Quilts for South Africa

I am going to South Africa in July, and I decided to make some baby quilts to give
to expecting and new moms.   So far I have 3 quilts finished.  I have more to
machine quilt, and will keep making them until I leave.

My only hitch is that my daughter is getting married in two weeks, so that, of course, is
taking top priority : )

Here are the baby quilts that I have ready for my trip:

The first quilt has the traditional binding, and the last two have no binding.
I decided that I was more likely to get them finished without
binding,  what do you think about quilts with no binding?

Giving to Fire Victims in Utah

Just a little backround on my giving history. I started giving quilts and quilt related things when I joined a quilt guild 20 years ago.  I was a new quilter and I  remember telling the Charity Chairperson that I wasn't good enough to participate in the project.  Her answer keeps me focused on the goal still today.  She told me that if a person was in need of the love, support, caring thoughts behind a quilt, they really didn't care if the points were perfect.

Since then I have given whenever possible.  Blogging has expanded my scope and has enabled me to help in tiny bits  all over the country. A block here a top there.  I use my stash and scraps from friends.

This top is going to go to Julie at  http://havingfunquilting.blogspot.com/   she is getting together quilts for the forest fire victims under the heading Operation Wood Hollow.  This is an area near where she lives in Utah.

This top was made with scraps from a fiend ( should read friend but this may be more appropriate)who dropped a kitchen trash bag full oh her scrap pieces on my porch.

These blocks will be going to Margaret's Hope Chest.  Link on SideBar.

So if you are unsure if you're work is good enough and that is stopping you from participating, let me be the one to tell you that you are plenty good enough and each piece you do will make you a better quilter and make you feel so good inside.

1 for the Guardian ad Litem office

Finished up this quilt that I did a few years ago as a one day mystery. It was using fake curves covered with rick rack. Hopefully some child will like it.

Four Quilts for New Orleans

Hi, all!

I wanted to show off four quilts I finished this week that will be going to New Orleans in the fall...

These four tops were sent to us by Katie of Swim Bike Quilt!  Thanks, Katie!!  They'll be added to the other quilts sent as part of the Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

Oh - and speaking of Katie, she's once again hosting 100 Quilts For Kids, running this year from June 15th to October 15th.  You can read more about it here!

Hugs!

Operation Wood Hollow

Hi, all!

I'm so glad Beth has started this wonderful platform for charity quilters to get together - and I'd like to use it tonight to showcase an immediate need for quilts that has come up in the last few days...

Operation Wood Hollow

I'd like to let you know about a call for help I received this week.  You may have heard about the wildfires in Colorado, but less well publicized have been the wildfires in Utah.

Julie of Having Fun Quilting lives in the area very near the wildfires and wants to give quilts to the families that have lost their homes as a result of the fire.  You can read more about this ongoing situation here - she actually was evacuated yesterday because the fires were threatening her town, but today they got to return to their homes.  The fire is only 15% contained, so it's still a continuing danger to the people that live there.  Anyway, Julie's requesting help from the blogging community, in the form of finished quilts, quilt tops, blocks, fabric or cash - anything you can send to help out.  If you leave a comment on her blog, she'll send you her address.  I hope you'll be able to help her!

Hugs!

Half Log Cabin or Wonky Bento Box

It seems fitting that my first post to this blog would be of a quilt
that I just finished using one of Beth's tutorials at the Love Laugh
Quilt blog. Thanks Beth! Used her Half Log Cabin – Free Style
tutorial. This was so fun and quick. I didn't use the paper foundation
for my blocks but followed her method.

Went to the Project Linus meeting yesterday and delivered the
quilt. Forgot to take a final picture so these are pictures of the
flimsy. I had picked up the black & white polka dot at a past meeting,
4 yards, 18” wide, so perfect for this scrap busting project.

I also took two flimsies I sewed together from orphan blocks
came home with at another meeting. The coordinator is planning a
"sandwich” day, not an eating party, but a workshop to sandwich
quilts from flimsies given to PL. Find a back, layer, sandwich, and
baste the quilts as needed. Some are sewn at the workshop, some
taken home. Some are taken to a retirement home where residents
tie quilts. Lots of work gets done by many hands.

Thanks again Beth for the tutorial. AND Thank you for creating the
new blog. I'm glad you have invited us to join in the fun and share
our projects.
